Guitar and Notebook

January 19th to March 1st, 2026
Weekly self-guided prompts + optional Thursday evening Zoom. Approximately 1–3 hours per week.

There is a quiet and spacious moment when a year turns... a moment that invites us to pause long enough to feel what is ready to open within us. It is a chance to listen for the inner Song waiting to be unlocked and to step into a rhythm that aligns with who we really are.

The Song Within is a six-week guided songwriting journey for the new year. It is designed for anyone who feels the pull toward heart-centered creativity, whether you have written hundreds of songs or you are just at the beginning of your songwriting practice.

We will look back at what 2025 taught us, listen for what feels true now, and discover four inner “seeds” that will guide four intention based songs. Using the Four Directions as our compass, we will move through beginnings, emotion, release and becoming.

Each week brings a simple rhythm: gentle prompts, a small community pod, an anchoring ritual, and space to write songs that only you can write. These may be short mantrasongs or fully formed pieces, but the focus is the same. The aim is to write from your authenticity, the songs you need to hear right now, so you can move into 2026 with integrity, purpose and a deeper sense of wholeness.

Your journey will be guided by veteran songwriters and spiritual guides, holding an intentional space that is safe and accessible, a container where your creative spirit can breathe and wander.

The Song Within is first public group offering from Bring Forth, a music community devoted to celebrating our shared humanity through heart-centered, human-made creativity. We are gathering people who want to make something real and honest and who feel called to help kindle a movement of heart-centered expression in the year ahead.

When we create from authenticity, we change our lives. When we create together, we change the world around us.

What this journey offers you:

  • A creative rhythm to begin 2026 with intention, authenticity and momentum.
  • A guided process for listening inward and discovering the four inner “seeds” that will shape your year and your songs.
  • Four original intention based songs rooted in your own emotional truth and direction.
  • Weekly invitations that keep the practice steady, spacious and accessible, no matter your level of experience.
  • A small pod community where your process is witnessed and supported and where you are encouraged to stay true to your own unfolding.
  • A weekly ritual to help you mark time, deepen intention and stay connected to each Direction along the way.
  • Optional "Open Studio Office Hours" for questions, reflection and grounding support. Open Studio will take place on a Zoom call Thursdays from 6pm to 7pm PT. Recordings will be made available afterwards.
  • Teaching and guidance from songwriter and creative guide Benjamin Jay Thomas, ritual practices from Bring Forth artist and space holder Nora B. Heath, and support from a small team of Bring Forth artists who help hold the creative field of this journey.
  • A sense of creative belonging inside a community committed to heart-centered expression and authentic growth.

Your weekly rhythm...

Being on this journey with Ben through song coaching has been such a transformative experience. I thought I was coming in to write some songs, but it has gone such deeper than that to how I do all things, and how I show up for myself.

Song coaching with Ben has been the best thing I’ve done for my songwriting. He’s helped me improve exponentially. I cannot recommend him highly enough.

FAQ's

Do I need to be an experienced songwriter to join?
Not at all. This journey is for anyone who feels the pull to create through song. Some people will come in with years of writing behind them, and others will be writing their very first melody. What matters is your willingness to listen inward and show up for the process.
What if I can’t attend the office hours?
The "Open Studio Office Hours" (Thursdays from 6-7pm PT via Zoom) are completely optional and exist as a place to ask questions or get support if you want it. You can fully participate in the program even if your schedule never lines up with them. They will also be recorded and available to view afterwards!

How much time should I expect to spend each week?
Most people will probably spend between one and three hours per week. Some weeks may flow quickly, others may invite more exploration. You get to set the pace that fits your life. The goal here is to help you develop a sustainable practice of songwriting... a healthy rhythm of life, rather than an all-out sprint.
What if I feel nervous about sharing my songs?
Super normal!  Most people feel that. This community is meant to be a caring circle where everyone is here to create alongside you. Sharing is always by invitation, never forced, and you can choose what feels right each week.
What happens if I fall behind?
This journey isn’t about keeping up with anyone else. If life gets full, you can step back in whenever you’re able. Every seed stands on its own, and you’ll continue to have access to the material.
How old do you have to be to participate? Can youth join?
The Song Within is designed with adults in mind. The themes we explore, the emotional depth of the journaling, and the vulnerability of sharing works in progress tend to land best for those who have a certain level of life experience and self-awareness.

That said, some young people do have the emotional maturity and interest to participate meaningfully. If you are considering enrolling a youth participant, we ask that they:

• are at least in their mid-teens
• feel comfortable engaging in reflective, inward-facing work
• understand the confidentiality and integrity of the creative container
• can commit to showing up for themselves and their pod

If you’re unsure, reach out to us at info@bringforth.org and we can talk it through.
